In Search of the Miraculous
In Search of the Miraculous

ALL OF US ARE MOVED BY THE IDEA OF MIRACLES. To believe in something larger/ divine/powerful we seek the miraculous. This desire in us individually and as a group psyche, is what creates Godmen with magical powers. Understand the truth of this statement.

People historically and even in the modern ages flock to churches, idols, temples and graves which have so called 'mystical powers'. Those powers according to them are Divine decree. And he/she who possesses them, truly Divine. You have thus created a spiritual caricature and are now limited by that expectation.

Just like in science, there is something called the spiritual progress of man. Messiahs, prophets, miraculous events were needed when man's consciousness was limited in comprehending the larger design and truth of divinity.

Life was limited to the village where people were born. They did not even have the means to know what lay beyond their own immediate land. Everything seemed larger then, the earth, sky, lightening, rain even the animal kingdom. So they were all revered as Gods.

Teachers and Masters had to come as Prophets of Light. They had to define Light and they could only do it through creating optical illusions such as flying in space, parting oceans, manifesting wealth, food, water out of air, so humanity could experience a larger mystery. Prophets and Messiahs are not needed today except by masses who are still trapped in traditional moulds. The Prophet brought necessary structure to man's unstructured existence. Society has evolved and the Prophet has stopped being desired. The Messiah was desired by the unevolved mind, which needed miracles to be able to perceive divinity. Thought has become more sophisticated and the Messiah has stopped being necessary.

Modern man needs the companionship of a higher self. He does not want dictation, he wants experience. He has no use for texts; he wants the embodiment of the wisdom. He has no time for devotion he wants direct transmission. He has no need to renounce; he only wants to attain. He has no time for airy-fairy ideals; he wants the best and he wants it now. His life is a living hell and his prayer takes him deeper into the same burning fire. He wants release and he wants it in the fastest way possible. It is the spiritual jet-age.

To believe in something larger, divine, powerful we seek the miraculous

Understanding the miraculous is therefore a critical event because it will be your cornerstone for defining it and therefore seeking it. Ask yourself, if someone hops through air suddenly, or creates ash dust from his finger tips, or materializes an expensive watch through space how will it change the reality of your pain and traps that define your universe. Stroking this man's feet and pledging your wealth to him won't do it. Chanting his name and following him to the ends of the earth will not do it. Only release from your own pain will do it for you.

Become the God that you serach

So why not begin on the Path which is about you and not about the other. The powers which you see as miracles, are optical illusions. Abilities developed through harnessing certain energies which lie in ALL OF US. Be clear. If these are powers that you are impressed by then perhaps you should begin to seek them so that you can have them for your own, rather than letting them be one more thing by which someone wields power over you. Just know one thing, anyone, even a guru, teacher or Godman of any kind, who has to resort to using powers to sell his greatness and eligibility to be your guide, is lost himself. Varied powers are latent in your undiscovered Self. They are called 'siddhis' (achievements) on the Path to discovering your infinite being. They are not Truth.

If your goal is to scale the peak, the lakes and valleys on the way will just be diversions on the way! If you end your journey at any one of them, no matter how beautiful a stop, they will have cost you the height that was your goal.

So reaching the goal is the miracle. Attaining to the promise of your infinite potential will be your experience of the miraculous. More specifically ask yourself why the question to seek God, religion or any higher practice drives you in the first place. The answer for most of us includes the following : To free myself from my pain, suffering, fear, failures, suicide attempts, addictions, restlessness etc.

It is clearly a very individual, intimate need which lays the seed to search for something larger. The need is relief. The miracle is that you achieve that relief. In effect, if the search for relief from pain leads you to experience bliss, peace and freedom that you cannot even imagine, that will be miraculous FOR YOU! Something that will transform your whole being forever. Something which is not about following a teacher/preacher around but ending up as Master of your own being and a light unto others. That is who the Prophets and Messiahs were. That is your very own potential. Become the God that you search.

This is the only and ultimate miracle. It is Truth! It is your Self, and only about you. It is the journey of the miraculous and every one of us is invited at birth. Responding to the invitation is a choice you must make.

We seek God to free ourselves from pain, suffering, fear, failures, suicide attempts, addictions, restlessness etc.
